Good Friends Charlotte Introduces Virtual “Gather & Give” as 34th-Annual Fundraiser

Women’s Organization Announces Virtual Event on December 10th

Charlotte, N.C., September 18, 2020 – Good Friends Charlotte, a women’s non-profit organization supporting local individuals and families with financial resources to improve lives and inspire hope, has announced its 34th-annual holiday event, a virtual luncheon called “Gather & Give,” on Thursday, December 10. Attendance is free, with the opportunity to make a financial contribution. Registration will open soon.

With events changing in response to COVID19, Good Friends has been inspired to move its uplifting annual event to a digital format, which will allow even more guests to participate. With nearly 1,800 women in attendance last year, the organization can now invite more Good Friends into their community and would like to surpass the more than $500,000 raised in 2019. The funds raised are given back to community members as grants that keep them from falling into financial distress, including support with utilities, food security, rent and other necessary bills.

“For 34 years, Good Friends Charlotte has been an annual holiday tradition for close to 2,000 women,” said 2020 event chair Sally Van Allen. “Although we won’t all be together in one room this year, we will still be united through one common mission – serving our community. We’re excited about sharing our event online, hosting small gatherings in our homes if possible, and expanding our reach.”

Since 1987, Good Friends has grown to become a “go-to” organization for individuals and families in crisis. The non-profit’s flexibility and nimbleness have allowed it to serve as a bridge to stability as a partner with more than 80 other agencies. With growing need in 2020, Good Friends has been uber-focused on safe sleeping, food for the most at-risk neighbors, and was recently highlighted for their donation funding internet service to the students of two Title I schools. The group focuses on finding the ways that other agencies are not able to serve and stepping into those gaps one small gift at a time to make a larger difference.
