Women’s Organization Announces Largest Funds Raised to Date
Following Gather & Give Event

Charlotte, N.C. January 5, 2022Good Friends Charlotte, the inspiring 35-year-standing women’s nonprofit organization, is celebrating today after raising a record-breaking $750,000 at their annual end-of-year “Gather & Give” event held on Thursday, December 9 at the Charlotte Convention Center.

The “Gather & Give” luncheon had 1,500 attendees in-person and virtually, including Charlotte Mayor and Good Friends Member, Vi Lyles. “This event is so special to me because it makes us realize how fortunate we are…[Good Friends has a] track record of 35 years of reaching out, helping, and raising more than $5 million to do it,” Mayor Lyles said.

In addition to Mayor Lyles, 2021 Olympian and second generation Good Friend Anna Cockrell also addressed the crowd. She expressed that now more than ever Charlotte families are in need of support and just how the Good Friends impact provides stability and security to those who are less fortunate.

“‘Good Friends Charlotte is proud to announce that we’ve raised nearly $750,000 at this year’s 35th-annual Gather and Give luncheon event — another record-breaking total that will provide critical financial support to some 5,000 families in our community,” said Marinn Bengel, this year’s Event Chair.  “We are incredibly grateful to all of our sponsors and donors this fundraising year.”

About Good Friends

Good Friends is a women’s non-profit organization supporting local individuals and families with financial resources to improve lives and inspire hope. Launched by four good friends including Catherine Browning, Alice Folger, Patty Norman and Sally Saussy– Good Friends now boasts 970 active members. Since 1987, Good Friends has grown to become a “go-to” organization for individuals and families in crisis. The group serves as a bridge to stability as it focuses on finding the ways that other agencies are not able to serve and stepping into those gaps one small gift at a time to make a larger difference; funds raised are given back to community members as grants that keep them from falling into financial distress, including support with utilities, food security, rent and other necessary bills. The organization has raised more than $5.6 million dollars for the Charlotte community through its annual holiday luncheon. Visit GoodFriendsCharlotte.org to learn more.
